Is the Help to Buy ISA for first-time buyers only?

Help to Buy ISA was launched back in 2015 to help the first-time buyers. The scheme was created for individuals having difficulty saving money to buy their own home. Unlike other Help to Buy schemes, the Help to Buy ISA is exclusively for first-time buyers. This is because the scheme is intended to support individuals to begin rising in the property ladder. You cannot get a Help to Buy ISA if you are a current homeowner moving home. Additionally, if you plan to obtain a Help to Buy ISA account, you have to declare your intention. To declare your intention of using the property you are planning to buy to be your sole residence. Just like with other Help to Buy schemes, you cannot use it to buy a second home. You can’t buy a property for the sole purpose of renting it out either.
